Adams Co. I find an Abigail Withey age 76 b. MA in hh of James Peast (pr. Pease) 1860 Gilmer Twp. I can not place her. For full information, see query at Adams Co. GenWeb site.
Alexander Co. I should be able to find Willard Jerome Withey there in 1880.
Bond Co. I need a copy of the death certificate of George Alphonso McWethy, who died there in 1923. (Although he lived and is buried in Jasper Co. Missouri) . Write to Illinois State Archives; they will provide at no cost.
Carroll Co.Mt. Carrol Cornelius McWorthy(p. 1061), Peter McWorthy(p. 1106) and William McWorthey (p. 1061) in 1860. This is almost certainly somewhere in the line of James4 of Pike Co. And in Wysox Twp. the family of Wm. H Quivey6 (Amasa5 John4John3) AND also in Wysox Twp. 1860 we find John Quivey7 (Hendy6 Jonathan5 Nathan4John3). This seems quite a coincidence, doesn't it ? But I think I have the lines figured out correctly.
Champaign Co. I have an IGI marriage of a Sarah Amanda McWethy to William LeRoy Fulton (1913). I don't yet know where she fits. It is here that John C.O. McWithey settled. Probably Sarah Amanda is in that line.
Coles Co. 1840 A.M. Quivey (i.e. Addison Milton )p. 173 I still need to get this record.
Cook Co. In 1912 Frank A. Withey, son of Orrin and Mary (Nash) Withey died there.
DuPage The Illinois marriage index records a 10 Nov. 1844 marriage between Alvira Higgins and Ichabod Wethy in DuPage Co. I Also in DuPage Co. marriage of William Porter and Diana (Churchill) Withey; that in 1848. And I think Wm P. was the son of Ansel Wethey of Michigan. Ansel did appear to have a son b. 1820-1825, not yet identified... perhaps this is he.
Edgar Co. 1840
Greene Co. (See note Jersey Co.)
Jersey Co. I find a James McWithey, age 30 wife Mary age 27 and children Benjamin, 3 and Jane, 1 there 1860 in Phills Creek Precinct p. 180. It looks to me like that is in Fidelity Twp, but I'm not sure. I don't know who James is, but note that Jersey Co. is just south of Greene Co., which in turn borders somewhat Pike Co. Macoupin Co. is east of Greene and Jersey. Adams Co. lies to the north of Pike Co. In other words, I think we need to look at all these counties as a group, following the line of James McWithey/McWorthey of Pike Co. IL.
Jo Davis Co: Peter McWorthy p. 194 (1850) Have not yet seen this or the census records below. Is this the Peter McWorthy who is 1870 in Iowa, Jackson Co. Van Buren Twp. p. 163? And was it his son Peter P. McWorthy Jr. b. 6 Oct. 1856 Ogle Co. Illinois, d. 15 May 1890 Savanna, Carrol Co. ILL, m. Emma Bennett 25 Dec. 1873 in Ogle Co. IL. (AF entry)?
Hancock Co. Clarissa Withey Glazier, wife of Shepherd Glazier died 26 Sept. 1841 in Hancock Co. I have not yet placed her. She was b. 1796 in Brooklyn, Windham Co. CT. They married in Brimfield, Hampden Co. MA. Possibly he was her second husband.
Knox Co. Linus Quivey, son of Hendy and Hannah Spickerman Quivey was here 1860.
Lee Co. John H. McWethy, son of Henry and Olive (Hale) McWethy settled in South Dixon, Lee Co. Illinois. Also there the family of Ezra and Abigail (Bradbury) Withey, who came from Maine and the family of Orin and Mary (Nash) Withey, who came from Plymouth Co./Middlesex Co. Massachusetts, but have Franklin Co. Maine connections.
Macoupin Co. 1860 Mortality shows a Mary McWithy age 54 female, married, b. KY, d. Oct, farmer, consumption, 20 years. A Stephen D. McWithey, Private, Res. Bunker Hill, mustered in Co. E. Reorganized 14th IL Inf. on 1 March 1865, deserted 15 July 1865. Have not placed him.
Logan Co. In 1860 we find Reuben A.J. McWethy of Clermont Co. OH in Sugar Creek Precinct, Logan Co.I think he is there because of Houser connections (his wife a Houser).
Morgan Co. The family of Jacob H. and Elizabeth Ann (Hutcherson) Withey/Withee of Scott Co. seemed to migrate to or spillover into Morgan Co. I find what seem to be the marriages of their sons Charles P. and Hart A. there on 12/25/1879 and possibly a second marriage of William Orin 11/29/99. These could be grandsons, not sons, but they did have sons with these names. Also the marriage of Emma, probably their dau Emma, to John Edmondson.
Pike Co: These two marriages are probably of grandaughters of James b. 1763 (see Pension App), but I can not place them, nor have yet followed up on them: Eliza McWithy m. 1844 in Pike Co. David S. McCallister (not the David McCalister who is 1850 in Gallatin Co. IL) and Minerva McWithy /Manirva McWhithy m. 1839 in Pike Co. Ephraim Havens. It could be that both are daughters of McClement/Clement R. McWorthy who m. there in 1833; if so, they would have been of a previous marriage. We know that James McWethy / McWorthy was in Pike Co. in 1831 (pension app) and 1840 (census). Another marriage in Pike Co is that of Wallace Withey to Dalia Graves (1859); I have not yet identified W.W.
Sangamon Co. The family of James and Jane (Stich or Stitch) Withey. This family is from England and not connected with the descendants of James Mackerwithey, but I have compiled a partial descendancy chart.
Scott Co. IL (see also Morgan Co.) is where Jacob H. and Elizabeth Ann (Hutcherson) Withey/Withee settled. It also is the location of the 1870 marriage of a Benjamin McWithey to Mary J. Stubelfield. I've not yet place this Benjamin. And in 1880 we fina a Mary McWithey there, age 54 and a Benjamin McWithey age 21 -- too young to be the Benjamin who married Mary Stubelfield. Mary McWithey age 54 is a laundress and possibly the Mary Stubelfield McWithey, but she has a dau age 19 named Kate McGinnis. She also has a neice Mary Lymons, age 9. It is also possible that she is the Mary of the Jersey Co. 1860 marriage record, which would make her daughter Kate the Jane, age 1 in the 1860 census. Katherine Jane? who married a McGinnis by time she was 19? I've not seen the full record to see if she is single or married. Then also there in 1880 is Benjamin McWithey age 21 farmhand in hh of Frederick Bean.
Winnebago Co: James and Sophrenia (Pease) Withee were there 1850-60 and 70. By 1880 they turn up in Turner Co., then Dakota Territory, now South Dakota. A family researcher tells me they then went to Carter Co. Missouri.
