Maps Document Management GedCom Management Maps Animap County Boundary Historical Atlas displays boundaries for each county in each of the forty-eight adjacent U.S. states from colonial times to the present boundaries. This usually comes with Site Finder, which offers a quick way to determine the county associated with a town or city.
If you are doing European research, you might be interested in Centennia Historical Atlas, a map-based guide to the history of Europe and the Middle East from the beginning of the 11th century to the present. It is a dynamic, animated historical atlas. Watch over 9,000 border changes occur as the map reshapes itself from one date to the next.
Deedmapper helps you map out lands. This is especially nice for land that falls in the system of metes and bounds. There is a nice description and review on Ancestry.com.
Document Management Clooz is a program that manages your sources. It bills itself as "an electronic filing cabinet." There is a lot of help at the Clooz.com site, including a file of Clooz Newsletters.
A similar program for Mac users is GenScribe. This is a share-ware program (free to try; $12 to buy). Rootsweb has a GenScribe list-serve for users.
Family Census Research is a utility for documenting and managing census record data. The same company also offers printable Charts and Forms.
GedCom Management GENViewer is a utility that allows you to look at a Gedcom file before importing it into your own program.
